"My son says he's ready for a big boy bed, we would consider an Ikea option, but I'm concerned about the particle board and pressed wood components, I can't find anything on their site about this but wondered if anyone knew how dangerous the ikea furniture is in terms of the off-gassing, is any of it low emitting?

Most likely less off gassing than the paint in his room, or the carpets, or the laundry detergents. Even less than the mattress he is sleeping on....
